According to Moore, “The Scout Regiment explores outside the walls and tries to reclaim lost territory. They fight the Titans directly, essentially serving as the first line of defense. The Scout Regiment achieves its goals through rigorous organization and strategy. The Regiment is highly trained in subterfuge, which allows them to infiltrate enemy camps with minimal detection. The Regiment effectively engages Titans and other enemies (including Marley) using omni-directional maneuvering gear, with which they can mount up to four Thunder Spears on each forearm, as well as the long-range scouting formation developed by former Commander Erwin Smith.^{[8]

- The long-range scouting formation involves spreading soldiers out over a vast semicircular area to allow for maximal visibility and the ability to detect Titan activity early via signal flares. When a Titan is detected, soldiers fire red flares while their commander observes and sets off green flares to redirect the formation around the Titan for ease of attack.
- The Scout Regiment also utilizes weapons, including semi-automatic pistols, bolt action rifles, and hand-thrown explosives.
