Need Help Maximizing Space in a Small Apartment
The first way is to make good use of your vertical space. A lot of times in closets, it looks like there's dead space, because the ceiling is much higher than the shelf. Make use of that space. Don't put anything heavy or big, but put towels, extra sheets, or blankets. You can also stack shoe boxes, winter coats, or light bins.

The other way to make good use of the space is with deep cabinets in the bathroom and kitchen. I buy deep bins from the container store, and this helps tremendously with making use of the full cabinet space.
How do I get rid of clutter?
For me, clutter is anything that's no longer useful, no longer serving you, or broken. So, if you use those three categories as a checklist to go through your home, start to declutter immediately. If you aren't using an item, it's not worth having around, especially if it's broken.
How to remember to bring my saxophone home
I have two ideas to help you remember your saxophone. The first thing I'd ask you is, what's your last stop of the day? What's the last thing you do before you go home? I'm assuming it's probably something like going to your locker. I would put a big sticky note in your locker (or wherever your last stop of the day is) that says, "Remember to bring your saxophone home." I would put it next to the hook where you're grabbing your backpack, if that's what you're doing. Basically, the note should be in any obvious spot wherever your last stop of the day is.

If you don't use a locker, or if digital reminders are more your thing, I'd suggest using an alarm on your phone. For example, if dismissal is at 3:20 PM, I would have an alarm go off at 3:22. You can add labels to your alarms, so I would have the alarm say something like, "Bring home saxophone." And the good news is, since everybody has a cell phone now, anybody can use the alarm system.
