Do you want to change the voice for navigation in Google Maps? It's easy to change the Google Maps voice on your Android device, although the process is a bit indirect on iPhone and iPad. This wikiHow article will guide you through the simple steps to change the voice in Google Maps on your Android, iPhone, or iPad.

Ways to Change the Google Maps Voice

Change the voice in your Google Maps app via Google Assistant for Android devices.
You can also change your Google Maps voice to a different language in your Google Maps app on Android.
Change your iPhone or iPad language to change the language of your Google Maps app.

Using Google Assistant on Android

Google Assistant will automatically open the Assistant settings menu. If you'd rather open it without voice commands, open the Google app, tap your profile picture in the upper-right corner, then tap Settings and select Google Assistant.
This will open a menu with a variety of voices for you to choose from.

Choose a voice that you like. There are a variety of options, both male and female. Once you've chosen a voice you like, you can close out of the Google Assistant app.^{[1]

You'll need to scroll down to find this option near the bottom of the menu.
This is below the "Guidance volume" section and will open a pop-up window.

Select a voice. The suggested voices won't change your experience too much and are region-specific, meaning that the language will use terminology that other regions don't. For example, English (US) and English (UK) both speak English, but in different accents and with different terms.^{[2]

Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. If you want to hear a different language or accent in Google Maps, you'll have to change the language on your iPhone or iPad. If you don't mind switching your language settings for all of your apps, open your Settings now.
- Unfortunately, the Google Maps app does not allow you to change your voice on your iPhone or iPad unless you change your language or region.
- If you want more voice options for navigation, consider using Apple Maps instead. Apple Maps uses Siri to guide you, and you can easily change Siri's voice.^{[3]

Tap a language. You will be prompted if you want to change your primary language to the new language you selected. Tap the button that has your new language. - Update or reinstall the Speech Recognition & Synthesis app. This is a Google app that powers Google's text-to-speech services. Updating or reinstalling this app can fix broken voice configuration settings.
  - You can easily update or reinstall the app by going to its page in the Google Play Store.
- Clear the Google Maps and Speech Recognition & Synthesis app cache. Clearing the cache can resolve many random issues, including problems with your Google Assistant voice not working.
  - To do this, go to Settings > Apps > Google Maps and/or Speech Recognition & Synthesis > Storage > Clear cache.
- If nothing else works, try submitting feedback to Google via the Google Maps app. Here's how to do so:
  - Tap your profile picture in the upper-right corner of the app.
  - Tap Help & feedback > Send product feedback.
