What is mogging, anyway?
What does mog mean?
“Mogging” is internet slang that describes the act of dominating or beating another person, particularly when it comes to appearances and fitness. To “mog” someone means to show them up.
Where did mogging come from?
Unfortunately, the word originated in the male pickup artist space online, which sort of makes sense. It was originally “AMOG,” which means “alpha male of the group.” You can probably guess, but these aren’t the healthiest online spaces, and the word wasn’t exactly a nice term when it was coined. But somewhere around 2021, the word broke containment and spread to other parts of the internet, and now it’s common slang.
Is mogging a bad thing?
Only if you take it seriously. Some people online actually believe you can “mog” someone, and that it makes you better than others, but that’s just not true. As a fun bit of slang to use to tease your friends, it’s pretty harmless. But if you’re actually serious about trying to out-alpha other people, you might need to take a few deep breaths and ask yourself why that’s your priority in life. 🥀
