Do you need to change a contact's information on your Android? Luckily, the process is fairly simple once you figure out which Contacts app you use! Generally, all Android phones have Google Contacts installed, but a few manufacturers, like Samsung and Asus, have their own Contact apps that work almost identically; only the placement of buttons is different! Read on to learn more about editing contacts on Android.

Quick Steps

  1. Open the Contacts app and tap the contact you want to edit.
  2. Tap the pencil icon.
  3. Edit the contact's information.
  4. Tap Save.
  1. If you're using Google Contacts, the app is a blue icon with a white outline of a person in the app drawer. Other devices’ Contacts apps (such as Samsung or Asus) may have different icons and slightly different steps.
  2. The contact's information will show on a new page.

  3. You'll either see the word Edit or a pencil icon, and it'll usually be at the upper-right corner or bottom of the screen.[1]
    • If prompted, choose the Google account you wish to use.
  4. You’ll be able to edit the contact’s phone number, display name, email address, and various other options. Just tap the text field and type in the new information.
    • To add another field (such as address, nickname, or relationship), scroll to the bottom of the contact and tap Add new field. Select the type of field you want to add, then enter the information you want to appear.
  5. Your contact will be updated immediately.[2]

It's rare, but if there really is no edit button, you need to download a new contacts app from play store. There are plenty of good contacts/people apps on play store that offers you even more than your stock contacts app.
