Does the Facebook app on your smartphone, tablet, or PC keep crashing? Many reasons, including an outdated app or a poor internet connection, can be the cause of your troubles, but fixing them is easy! From restarting your phone to updating the app in the Microsoft Store, you can quickly solve the issue and get the app working smoothly. Here's what to do if your Facebook app keeps crashing on your PC, iPhone, iPad, or Android.

Why Does the Facebook App Keep Crashing?

The Facebook app may crash due to server issues, corrupted cache, or outdated software. To troubleshoot your Facebook app, restart your device, update the Facebook app, clear your cache and data, or try a different device.

Restart your device.

  1. Whether you're using an Android, iPhone, iPad, or Windows computer, restart it.
    • For Windows, open the Start menu and press the Power icon, then select Restart.[1]
    • There is no desktop Facebook app for Mac.
    • For Android, press and hold the side buttons and select Restart.[2]
    • For an iPhone, press and hold either volume button and the side button, then drag the slider on the screen to power your phone off. Press the side button again to turn your phone back on.[3]
      • If you have an older model of iPhone (anything before the iPhone X), check how to restart your iPhone here.
      • The right way to turn an iPad off and on depends on the model. Look up how to do it on your model here.

Clear cache and data.

  1. A full cache and lots of temporary files can clutter up your phone, tablet, or computer, and cause Facebook to crash constantly. You may also have corrupted files in your cache.[5]
    • Clear your cache on Android by going to Settings > Apps > Facebook > Storage > Clear cache & Clear data.[6]
    • Since you can't clear app cache from Settings on an iPhone or iPad, you'll need to offload or uninstall and reinstall the app. To do that, go to Settings > General > iPhone/iPad Storage > Facebook > Offload App. You can, however, open the Facebook app to clear any browser-related cache files in Settings > Profile settings > Browser > Clear.
    • For Windows, go to Settings > System > Storage > This PC (or the drive where FB is installed) > Temporary files, check all the boxes, and select Remove files.
