Start off by saying hi. Then make small talk. Get there number and become friends, then tell him you like him on you own time.

Wave hi everyday, make eye contact and simply smile! Kindness is the best quality! It's normal to feel nervous about approaching someone you like, especially if you think they don't know you exist. My bsf pissed me off so bad talking about a guy that didn't know her but I helped and BOOM! Started dating. Just start getting in the same spaces. Are there shared classes, clubs, or common areas where he spends time? Being consistently present makes you a familiar face and REMOVES the awkwardness when you eventually do speak, like no filter. Follow him on social media! & when you feel ready to get close to him, focus on casual, relevant topics to break the ice.The easiest way to start a conversation is to use the place youre both in.
Classes: "Hey, are you also in Mr. Smith's history class? That homework was tough" [3].
School Events: "Did you see the score from the game last night?" or "Are you going to the pep rally this Friday?"
Ask for Help or an Opinion: People generally like to help others.
"Excuse me, do you know what time the library closes?" [3]
"I'm trying to figure out which elective to take next semester, do you have any recommendations?"
Keep it SHORTTTTT and Friendly: The first conversation doesn't need to last long. A quick, friendly exchange is successful. End it naturally: "Anyway, I gotta run to class, see you around" [3].
Fake it 'til you make it: Approaching someone can be nerve-wracking, but projecting a confident, friendly attitude helps. Remember that most people are flattered when someone talks to them [3].
Manage Expectations: Your first conversation is just about breaking the ice and establishing a connection. The goal isn't to ask him out immediately, but rather to show him you are approachable and interesting [3].
Be Yourself: Authenticity is attractive. Don't try to be someone you're not to impress him ur not.

if you have any class with him you could use that as an opportunity to talk to him and gradually become friends ( work on my crush and now I think him likes me back BUT it might not be the same with you ) never hurts to try
