To make oobleck, fill a measuring cup with 3/4 cup (175 mL) of water. Add a few drops of food coloring if you’re using any (you don’t have to!) and mix it in with a spoon. Then, put 1 cup (125 g) of cornstarch into a mixing bowl. Slowly pour the water into the mixing bowl and gently toss the mixture by hand. Add more water if the mixture feels a little too thick, and add more cornstarch if the mixture is too runny. Once the mixture is uniform and even, you’ve got oobleck!
If you don’t have cornstarch, you can try using arrowroot, tapioca, potato starch, or baby powder. Use the same ratios and instructions as you would for cornstarch. Also, make sure that you throw the oobleck out when you’re done! Do not pour it down the drain as this stuff is very likely to cause a pipe blockage.
