From an iconic standpoint, I would have to say Charmander, just because it evolves into Charizard, and fans LOVE Charizard. Pikachu is also so iconic.

Competitively, I would say Litten, because Incineroar is the best competitive Pokémon of all time. For the best competitive Pokémon of all time to evolve from a starter is pretty impressive, and it's even from a quite underrated region.

My personal favorite is Chimchar, however, because Infernape is my favorite Pokémon. But an honorable mention goes to Froakie, because Greninja is another top Pokémon for me.

My personal favorite starter is Litten from Pokémon Sun and Moon. Maybe I'm a little biased because I love cats. But I loved Litten since before I owned cats, because it's a Fire and Dark type, which are my two favorite types in Pokémon.

Litten is very good competitively. In its final form in Incineroar, it gets access to a lot of moves that are very useful in VGC competitive play. Finally, it's just a really cool-looking Pokémon. It's so cool that they even put it in Smash Brothers, so you know it's a popular one!
