Fathers’ Gift Guide
Find out what they already have. The thing about dads is that they’ve usually already gotten themselves plenty of things that they wouldn’t replace. And a lot of the time, they’re buying the particular equipment they want, and your gift might just be superfluous. While everything in this quiz falls into the “great to have another” category, it’s best to get an idea of the gear they already have before you go buying them their sixth hiking pole.
Ask them if they need anything. The other thing about dads is that there’s always something else they could use, even if they insist they’re all kitted out. Maybe it’s a particular knife, or a backup lighter, or a cozy hat. Chances are that they’ve got one bit of equipment they haven’t gotten around to getting for themself, and gifting it to them would be a dream come true. You just have to ask!
When in doubt, go for the basics. We’re talking flashlights, knives, lighters. Things you can’t do without or have too many of, because a backup is always welcome. Wool socks, paracord, multitools, hand warmers, sunscreen. The works! Not only do they make great stocking stuffers, but you’re doing them a favor by stocking up for them.
