Fun Facts about Gilmore Girls

Did you know…

…Max sent Lorelai more than 1000 yellow daisies?
As co-creator Amy Sherman-Palladino said, "A thousand yellow daisies actually sounds like a lot, but when you put a thousand yellow daisies in a big room, like our set, it's kind of like a table arrangement." They had to keep adding more to fill out the room. So when Kirk said, "Not a thousand-and-one, not nine-hundred-and-ninety-nine, but a thousand," he was straight-up lying!

…"Rory" was Alexis Bledel's first major role?
The actress had only ever had one uncredited film role prior to being cast in the iconic role! Hard to believe, right?

…Alex Borstein was originally cast as Sookie?
Alex Borstein played Sookie in the unaired pilot, but she was already acting on the sketch comedy show MADtv and her contract wouldn't let her be in both shows, so she had to drop out. She did, however, get to guest-star as the cranky harpist, Drella, and Emily Gilmore's stylist, Miss Celine. And she later went on to co-star in another Amy Sherman-Palladino hit, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, as Susie Myerson, so it all worked out! (Besides, can you imagine anyone but Melissa McCarthy as Sookie??)

…Jackson Douglas (aka "Jackson") wasn't supposed to be a regular character?
He was only supposed to appear in a guest role, but Sherman-Palladino thought he and Melissa McCarthy had such great chemistry, she made him a recurring character and had him marry Sookie! (But IRL, he's married to Alex Borstein!)

…"Paris Geller" was written specifically for Liza Weil?
Paris is one of our favorite characters in the entire series—and go figure, the role was literally tailor-made for actress Liza Weil, who perfectly embodies Paris's intensity, ferocity, and weirdness. But Weil had originally auditioned for the role of Rory, if you can believe it! Sherman-Palladino loved her so much, she created a new role just for her.

…2025 was a big year for Gilmore Girls reunions?
Alexis Bledel (Rory) and Lauren Graham (Lorelai) reunited for the Emmy's to celebrate the show's twenty-fifth anniversary and to present the award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series—and then, in September 2025, Graham got her star on the Walk of Fame, where she was accompanied by Gilmore Girls co-stars Scott Patterson (Luke), Kelly Bishop (Emily), Yanic Truesdale (Michel), and Matt Czuchry (Logan), as well as Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Dan Palladino, who wrote, directed, and produced many of the show's episodes.

…the cast and creators are open to another revival? 👀
Fans are always clamoring for more Gilmore Girls (what else is new?), but it turns out the cast and Sherman-Palladino are also open to yet another revival. Lauren Graham has said she would be particularly excited to do a Gilmore Girls Christmas special—we can only hope! As far as we can tell, there are no plans for another Gilmore Girls reboot right now, but we're keeping our fingers crossed.
