Naming Your Girl Pet

PDF download Download Article
  1. Every animal, be it a cat, dog, squirrel, monkey, reindeer, or blue whale, has their own unique personality! If your pet is brand-new, it may take a little time to get a feel for what her personality is, but don't feel rushed into giving her a name right from the get-go. You may need a couple of days to get a feel for what she's like!
  2. 2
Take inspiration from her appearance. Consider choosing a name that matches the look of your pet. For instance, if she's red, you might call her something having to do with the color red—like Strawberry or Tomato—or name her after a famous redhead—like Jessica Chastain or Victoria from Twilight.
    • If she resembles a famous animal from pop culture, you might name her after that animal. For example, if she's a dalmatian, you might naturally think to name her Perdita, after one of the dogs in 100 Dalmatians.
  3. 3
Pick a name that's easy to call out. Cat and dog behavior consultant Jessica Char says you should choose "something that rolls off your tongue pretty easily that you're happy to call out in public."[2] This is especially important if you have a pet that you'll be taking outside, like a dog. Try to choose a name that's easy to say and easy for your pet to pick up on.
    • If she's a cat, on the other hand, it probably doesn't matter how easy her name is to say: she's probably not coming when you call! 💅
  4. Don't overthink your pet's name. You can spend a lot of energy trying to figure out the perfect name for your new fur baby, but at the end of the day, whatever name you choose for her will become hers over time!
