Were you invited to a Discord server and have no idea how to join? Discord is a free way to communicate with people in games, and many gamers use it. Once you have your invitation link, joining a Discord server on your PC or Mac is super easy. This wikiHow will guide you through joining a Discord server using either the Discord desktop app or your web browser.
Joining Public & Private Servers
- Join public or private servers by getting an invite link from a user within the server.
- You can also join servers by typing in the server invite code in Discord.
- Private servers can only be joined through a link.
- Join public servers by clicking on the Server Discovery Page in Discord, then searching for the server you want to join.
Steps
-
Get a Discord invitation link. You can join a Discord server instantly from an invite link. You can get these links from friends, or they may be posted online for some public servers. Once you have a link, copy it to your computer, phone, or tablet's clipboard.
-
Click or tap on the invitation link. Once you do so, the Discord desktop or mobile app will open, and you'll be prompted to confirm that you want to join the server. Click or tap Accept as [display name] to join the server.[1]
- If the server is full, you will be unable to join the server with an error message, "This server is currently full. Please try again later."
- If your username or IP address is banned, you will be unable to join the server with an error message "Unable to accept invite". The former also appears upon clicking an invite link for a server that you cannot join, such as those that have temporarily disabled joining.[2]
-
Click or tap the + button. You'll see the + button at the bottom of your server list on the left-hand side of the screen. Clicking it opens the Server menu.
-
Click or tap Join a Server. This option is at the bottom of the menu. You'll see it just below "Have an invite already?"[3]
-
Enter the invite code. The invite code is a short code with both letters and numbers in it. Alternatively, you can paste the invite link if you have it.
-
Click Join Server. You'll be prompted to confirm that you want to join the server. Click Accept as [display name] to join the server.
- On mobile, you'll tap Join with Invite Link instead.
-
Open the server discovery page. This is only available on desktop. Click on the compass icon underneath the + button. This will open server discovery.
-
Type in the name of the server to join. Note that only servers that are public can be found via server discovery, and for servers to be eligible for discovery, they need to meet a specific set of criteria.
-
Click on Join [server name] to start chatting in a server. This will immediately make you a member of that server.
- If the server is full, you will be unable to join the server with an error message, "This server is currently full. Please try again later."
-
1Why can't I join a Discord server? If you are unable to join a Discord server, it means that the server has either reached its cap, the server has temporarily disabled joining, or your account or IP address was banned.[5] It is also possible that you have reached the maximum number of servers that you can join on a single Discord account.
-
2How many servers can I create/join? You can create/join up to 100 servers, or up to 200 if you're a Discord Nitro subscriber. If you are on over 100 servers and you unsubscribe from Nitro, you won't be kicked from any servers, but you won't be able to join any new ones until you are in under 100 servers.[6]

HagukananTop AnswererOnly the creator of the server will be able to delete it. The creator will have a crown icon next to their username if you open the "members" tab within the server. -
QuestionIs there a fee in joining?
AasimTop AnswererIf you are being asked to pay money to join a public Discord group, then it is likely a scam. Joining a Discord group is 100 percent free. However, some groups are often restricted to members or VIPs on different supporting platforms like Patreon or YouTube.
