- The National Football League (NFL) came to be in 1920 with 14 total teams (all from Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and New York).
- Since the NFL was founded, just 2 of the original 14 teams still exist within the League today: the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals (though they both went by different names originally).
- The NFL is divided into 2 conferences: the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). There are 16 teams in each conference.
- Both the NFC and AFC are divided into 4 different regions: NFC/AFC East, NFC/AFC North, NFC/AFC South, and NFC/AFC West.
- On the second Sunday in February, the NFL hosts a championship known as the Super Bowl, which features 1 team from the NFC and 1 team from the AFC.
- The Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots are the franchises with the most Super Bowl wins (both from the AFC).
