The Straw Hats’ Birthdays in One Piece

  1. Luffy is One Piece’s lovable (and super stretchy) protagonist with the mission of becoming King of the pirates. He’s also the fearless leader of the Straw Hat Pirates, responsible for building his little found family from the ground up. He can definitely be impulsive—not to mention downright goofy at times—but he has still earned the love and respect of his entire crew.[1]
    • Birthday: May 5
    • Age: 17 (at the beginning of the series)
    • Height: 5 ft, 8 in (172 cm)
    • Position: Captain
    • First appearance: Episode 1 (“I’m Luffy! The Man Who’s Gonna Be King of the Pirates!”)
    • Devil Fruit: Gomu Gomu no Mi
    • Current Bounty: 3 billion Berries
  2. Zoro is the first official member of Luffy’s crew, and naturally falls into the role of Luffy’s first mate. He’s an insanely talented fighter and master of the three-sword style, as well as a former bounty hunter; these skills make him just as tough an opponent as anyone with Devil Fruit abilities. And, although Zoro can come off seeming more mature and serious than the rest of the crew, he isn’t immune to a little tomfoolery![2]
    • Birthday: November 11
    • Age: 19 (at the beginning of the series)
    • Height: 5 ft, 10 in (178 cm)
    • Position: First Mate
    • First appearance: Episode 1 (“I’m Luffy! The Man Who’s Gonna Be King of the Pirates!”)
    • Devil Fruit: None
    • Current Bounty: 1,111 billion Berries

  3. Nami is the Straw Hats’ navigator and second official member of the crew, having met Luffy early on in the series along with Zoro. She’s extremely clever and, in a fight, won’t hesitate to “fight dirty” to gain the upper hand. Her sharp mind also means she ends up countering Luffy’s more far-fetched ideas with a better alternative! She may not have Devil Fruit abilities, but she’s an irreplaceable crew member nonetheless.[3]
    • Birthday: July 3
    • Age: 18 (at the beginning of the series)
    • Height: 5 ft, 7 in (169 cm)
    • Position: Navigator
    • First appearance: Episode 1 (“I’m Luffy! The Man Who’s Gonna Be King of the Pirates!”)
    • Devil Fruit: None
    • Current Bounty: 366 million Berries
  4. Usopp is the Straw Hats’ sharpshooter. Personality-wise, he’s actually a lot like Luffy; the two are both super energetic, goofy, and adventurous. The main difference is Usopop’s fear of dying and extreme awareness of his mortality, which leads him to advocate for less-risky plans (usually arguing against the plans that Luffy comes up with). At the end of the day, though, he’s able to find his bravery and help the crew when they need him.
    • Birthday: April 1
    • Age: 17 (at the beginning of the series)
    • Height: 5 ft, 9 in (174 cm)
    • Position: Sniper
    • First appearance: Episode 1 (“I’m Luffy! The Man Who’s Gonna Be King of the Pirates!”)
    • Devil Fruit: None
    • Current Bounty: 500 million Berries
  5. Sanji is one of the Straw Hats’ weaker members—but, then again, he’s mainly there to cook! And he firmly believes that everyone deserves a good meal, from his friends to his enemies. He’s also known for getting into (minor) spats with his crewmate, Zoro, although those fights are mainly for comedic effect. Sanji can also be a little over the top with his “love” for women—yet another comedic trait of his.[4]
    • Birthday: March 2
    • Age: 19 (at the beginning of the series)
    • Height: 5 ft, 10 in (177 cm)
    • Position: Cook
    • First appearance: Episode 20 (“Famous Cook! Sanji of the Sea Restaurant!”)
    • Devil Fruit: None
    • Current Bounty: 1,032 billion Berries
  6. Tony Tony Chopper (or just “Chopper”) is the Straw Hats’ doctor—and an adorable, deer-like creature to boot. He can be a little naive and childish, but does some growing up over the course of the series’ time-skip. He’s known for being a really dedicated doctor, with his reverence for life driving him to keep people safe as much as he can.
    • Birthday: December 24
    • Age: 15 (at the beginning of the series)
    • Height: 2 ft, 11 in (90 cm)
    • Position: Doctor
    • First appearance: Episode 81 (“Are You Happy? The Doctor Called Witch!”)
    • Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi
    • Current Bounty: 1,000 Berries
  7. Nico Robin is the Straw Hats’ mysterious archaeologist. She initially kept to herself after joining the crew, although time and character development have helped her warm up to the rest of the gang (and reveal her own tragic backstory in the process). Despite Robin’s calm, collected exterior, she can be absolutely brutal in combat and is a very strong fighter.[5]
    • Birthday: February 6
    • Age: 28 (at the beginning of the series)
    • Height: 6 ft, 2 in (188 cm)
    • Position: Archaeologist
    • First appearance: Episode 67 (“Deliver Princess Vivi! The Luffy Pirates Set Sail!”)
    • Devil Fruit: Hana Hana no Mi
    • Current Bounty: 930 million Berries
  8. Franky is the Straw Hats’ shipwright and carpenter, having built the Thousand Sunny for Luffy (and done more than his share of work to keep it afloat). He’s an interesting character, having augmented his body heavily—basically making him more of a cyborg than a human. Although he was originally the Straw Hats’ enemy, he allied with them during the Water 7 arc and eventually ended up joining Luffy’s crew.
    • Birthday: March 9
    • Age: 34 (at the start of the series)
    • Height: 7 ft, 5 in (225 cm)
    • Position: Shipwright
    • First appearance: Episode 233 (“Pirate Abduction Incident! A Pirate Ship That Can Only Await Her End!”)
    • Devil Fruit: None
    • Current Bounty: 394 million Berries
  9. Brook might just be the most unusual member of the Straw Hats, mainly because he’s a “living” skeleton, having been killed alongside his old crew at the age of 38, only to come back as a skeleton because of his Devil Fruit. He spent roughly 50 years alone before running into Luffy, and now spends his days keeping up the Straw Hats’ spirits with his music (and contributing his skills in combat, of course).
    • Birthday: April 3
    • Age: 88 (cumulatively, as both human and skeleton)
    • Height: 8 ft, 9 in (266 cm)
    • Position: Musician
    • First appearance: Episode 337 (“The Mysterious Skeleton Floating Through the Fog! Venture Into the Devil’s Sea!”)
    • Devil Fruit: Yomi Yomi no Mi
    • Current Bounty: 383 million Berries
  10. Jinbe is the Straw Hats’ helmsman…as well as a whale shark fish-man (which definitely makes him stand out from the crowd). He’s been part of several pirate crews over the years, including the Sun Pirates, and even became one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea—though he later resigned. Jinbe befriended Luffy before the Summit War of Marineford, and after the war ended, he agreed to join Luffy’s crew.
    • Birthday: April 2
    • Age: 44 (at the beginning of the series)
    • Height: 9 ft, 11 in (301 cm)
    • Position: Helmsman
    • First appearance: Episode 430 (“A Warlord in Prison! Jimbei, the Honorable Pirate!”)
    • Devil Fruit: None
    • Current Bounty: 1,100 billion Berries
