  1. If this is the first time you've used your Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds, entering pairing mode is as simple as placing them in your ears. You will hear a notification sound and the words "Bluetooth pairing".[1]
    • If you're trying to connect your earbuds to a different device, place them in your ears, then press and hold the touch sensors on each earbud for about five seconds until you hear the notification sound and the "Bluetooth pairing" voice guidance.
    • If you don't finish pairing your earbuds within five minutes of putting them into pairing mode, they will exit pairing mode. To enter pairing mode again, place the earbuds back in the case and shut the lid. Then, take them out and put them back in your ears.
  2. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your device before you start pairing. How you complete the pairing depends on what type of device you have:
    • Android phone or tablet: Swipe down from the top of the screen, then press and hold the Bluetooth icon. Then, tap Pair new device and select your Sony WF-1000XM4 from the list of available devices.[2]
    • iPhone or iPad: Open the Settings app and tap Bluetooth, then select your Sony WF-1000XM4 from the list of available devices.[3]
    • Windows: Search for Bluetooth & other devices in the taskbar search bar, then select the option that comes up. Select Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth, then select your Sony WF-1000XM4 from the list of available devices.[4]
    • Mac: Click the Apple menu and go to System Settings > Bluetooth. Select your Sony WF-1000XM4 and click Connect.[5]

Troubleshooting

  1. If your earbuds are already paired with a different device, you can force them into pairing mode by placing them in your ears and pressing and holding the touch sensors for about five seconds. Once your earbuds enter pairing mode, you can pair them with a new device.
  2. If you didn't hear the notification sound when you placed your earbuds in your ears, place your earbuds in their case and close the lid. If you don't see the indicator light on the case light up, your earbuds are likely dead and need to be charged.[6]
  3. First, try initializing the earbuds back to factory settings. To do this, place your earbuds in the case but leave the lid open. Press and hold the touch sensors for about 10 seconds, until the indicator light on the case flashes red. Stop pressing on the earbuds. Once the indicator light flashes green four times, your earbuds have been reset. Try pairing them with your device again.
    • If the earbuds still won't pair, you will need to contact Sony support for assistance.
