    You could also dry the clothes in a tumble dryer using a low heat setting. Tumbling softens fabrics.

    Why is vinegar in every recipe? Can I just use hair conditioner?

    I think they use vinegar to avoid excess build-up of detergents and laundry additives. Vinegar takes all that out so your clothes won't be so stiff. The hair conditioner actually does the softening, but then added to the detergent it might create too much build-up on your clothes and also in your washer.
