    Fair point! That would less time, but you cannot turn a glowstone block on/off like a redstone lamp. If you just want a permanent light source, go ahead with glowstone, but if you want to be able to turn your lamp on and off, then you need this.

    Yes, redstone lamps will work under water. However, you cannot place redstone dust or most other redstone related items under water. But, you can place a redstone block by the lamp to light it up.

    You cannot make redstone dust in Minecraft. You can get redstone dust by mining redstone ore, which is found from Y-levels 1-16 in all biomes. You can also find redstone dust in chests in dungeons, mineshafts, villages, strongholds, and woodland mansions. Witches may also drop redstone dust upon death.
