YouTube Shorts is a short-form vertical video feature available on the YouTube app and website. It was introduced in 2020 to compete with TikTok.[1] [2] Over the years, YouTube Shorts has faced criticism, mainly for being prioritised over regular videos and for taking up more space across the app and website, including the home page, subscriptions page, and especially search results.

Recently, YouTube announced an option that lets users filter out Shorts and view only regular videos in search results.[3] This wikiHow article will help you learn how to use that option.

  3. 3
Tap the icon. This is located in the top right corner of the app. A list of options will appear.
  4. 4
Tap Search filters. This is the first option in the “more” menu. The search filters pop-up will then open.
  5. 5
Tap the All option next to the “Type” heading. A drop-down menu will then appear.
  6. 6
Select Videos from the drop-down menu. By default, this option is set to “All”.
  7. 7
Tap the Apply button. This is located in the bottom right corner of the search filters menu.
  8. 8
Know that once you tap “Apply”, short videos will be removed from your search results. However, this is not a permanent solution. You will need to use the filter option every time you search to hide Shorts.
