Generally, you can only share someone else's story on Instagram if they mention you in it. However, a few years ago, Instagram added an option to mention someone even after posting a story. This helped people tag someone they forgot, and let others request a mention so they could reshare it.

Now, Instagram has added a new feature that lets you reshare stories from someone’s account to your own story without being mentioned or tagged.[1] This article will help you learn how to do it!

  1. 1
Open the Instagram app. Launch the Instagram app on your Android or iPhone, and if you're already logged in, it will open your home page.
    • The story to story sharing option isn't available on the web version, so you'll need the Android or iOS app.
    • Make sure your app is up to date. If not, update it in the Google Play Store or App Store.
  2. 2
Go to the story you want to share. Open the public account that posted the story publicly. Tap on their profile picture to open their story.
    • You can only share stories from public accounts. Stories shared to “Close Friends” can't be reshared.

Tap on the Add to story option. This will be at the bottom of the share list. It's shown as a story ring with a + icon inside.
    • If the Add to Story option isn't available, it means the creator has disabled story sharing on their account.
  5. 5
Edit the story, if you want. You can add comments, emojis, stickers, or other effects before sharing. If you don't want any changes, you can skip this step.
  6. 6
Share the story with your audience. After editing, tap the Your story button at the bottom. Wait for it to upload.
  7. 7
You’re done! Once uploaded, your audience can view it like any other reshared story. They can also access the original story by tapping it and going to the creator’s profile. That's it!
