Is the Roblox game client not opening for you? This is a very frustrating issue, especially since there isn't one fix that works for everyone. There are a few quick and easy troubleshooting tips you can try, however. In this article, we'll go over seven things you can try to get the Roblox game client up and running again.
Fixing a Roblox Client That Won't Open
If Roblox won't open, there are a few things you can try. Restarting is an easy fix, as is closing Roblox in Task Manager. You can also run Roblox as an administrator or clear out the Temp and LocalAppData folders. If you use BitDefender, you may need to add an exception. If nothing else works, try reinstalling.
Steps
-
1Open Task Manager. The easiest way to do this is to right-click the taskbar and click Task Manager.
- One of the most common reasons the Roblox game client won't open is that a random Roblox process is still running in the background. Forcing that process to close usually fixes the issue.
-
2Look for any open Roblox processes. You can find them easily by searching for roblox using the search bar at the top of the Task Manager window.
-
3Right-click any Roblox processes and select End task. This will automatically force any open Roblox processes to close. If there's more than one Roblox process running, you should end all of them.
-
4Try starting Roblox again. If the Roblox game client doesn't open, you'll need to try one of the other fixes in this article.
-
Right-click on the Roblox Player icon. You must do this from the desktop. If the Roblox Player isn't on your desktop, you should add it before continuing with this section.
-
2Click Open file location. An Explorer window will pop up with your Roblox Player files.
-
3Right-click on RobloxPlayerBeta.exe. This will pull up a contextual menu.
-
4Click Properties. This will open a new window with a number of settings you can adjust for the program.
-
5Click the Compatibility tab. It's at the top of the window.
-
6Check the box next to "Run this program as an administrator." It's right under the "Disable fullscreen optimization" option.
-
7Click Apply > OK. Your Roblox game client settings will be saved. You can now try running the Roblox game client to see if it launches. If it doesn't, you'll have to try one of the other fixes in this article.
-
1Open the Run dialog. The easiest way to do this is to press ⊞ Win+R.
-
2Type %temp% and press ↵ Enter. This will open the Temp folder.
-
3Delete all the files in your Temp folder. These files are temporary files, so they aren't necessary for anything on your computer to run. You may not be able to delete all the files; this is normal. For any files you can't delete, just leave them in your Temp folder.[1]
-
4Open the Run dialog again. Press ⊞ Win+R to do so.
-
5Type %localappdata% and press ↵ Enter. This will open the AppData > Local folder.
-
6Find and delete the Roblox folder. Deleting this folder will delete any cached files, user settings, and temporary data. However, it won't uninstall Roblox, nor will it delete your account. You may have to change your settings back the next time you get into Roblox, however.
-
7Open Roblox. If it still won't open, you'll need to try one of the other methods in this article.
-
Open BitDefender. If you use BitDefender, it may conflict with Roblox and cause Roblox to not open.
- This is likely only a temporary issue, caused by a recent Roblox update. Once the issue is fixed, you should remove this BitDefender exception.
-
2Click on the Protection tab in the sidebar. It has an icon of a shield with a checkmark.
-
3Click Open under Advanced Threat Defense. It's in the upper-right part of the menu. Advanced Threat Defense has a blue shield icon.
-
4Click Settings. It's at the top of the menu. You'll see two tabs: one that says Threat Defense, and one that says Settings. You'll want to click Settings.
-
5Click Manage exceptions. It's to the right of the "Manage exceptions" header.
-
6Click + Add an Exception. It's at the top of the window, under the "Manage exceptions" header.
-
7Navigate to your Roblox executable. You can do this by clicking the "Browse" button in the path field at the top of this menu, or you can copy and paste the path to your RobloxPlayerBeta.exe file by doing the following:
- Right-click on the Roblox Player app on your desktop.
- Click Open file location.
- Click the address bar at the top of the window to highlight the folder path.
- Copy the path (press Ctrl+C).
- Paste the path into BitDefender (press Ctrl+V).
- Add RobloxPlayerBeta.exe to the end of the path.
-
8Make sure Advanced Threat Defense is toggled on. At the bottom of the "Exceptions options" page, you'll see a toggle for Advanced Threat Defense. It is likely already toggled, but make sure it's toggled on before continuing.
-
9Click Save to save the exception. The Save button is at the bottom of the window. You can now try to see if Roblox opens. If it doesn't, you'll need to try one of the other methods in this article.[2]
-
1Check for any third-party apps that may interfere with Roblox. Some common third-party software that users have found to interfere with Roblox includes MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS), the NVIDIA GeForce overlay, or screen recording software.[3]
-
2Close the third-party software. Once you do, try opening Roblox again. If it still isn't working, you may need to try one of the other methods in this article to get Roblox up and running again.
-
Uninstall Roblox. To do this, type uninstall in your taskbar search bar, then click on Add or remove programs in the Start menu that pops up.
-
2Look for Roblox in your list of installed programs. You can find it easily by using the search bar to look for roblox.
-
3Click on Roblox and select Uninstall. Depending on your version of Windows, you may have to click the three-dot icon on Roblox's tile to find the Uninstall button.
- Follow any on-screen instructions when uninstalling the Roblox client. You may have to restart your computer after uninstalling, if prompted.
-
4Go to the Roblox website. Sign in with your Roblox account, if you haven't already.
-
5Click the play button on any game. You'll see a pop-up that says the game is loading, and then you'll be prompted to reinstall Roblox.
-
6Click Download and Install Roblox. The Roblox installer will immediately begin downloading. It should only take a few seconds to finish downloading.
-
7Run the RobloxPlayer.exe file you just downloaded. To do this, you can click on it in your web browser, or you can navigate to where you downloaded it (usually the downloads folder).
-
8Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the Roblox Player. You may be asked to confirm that you want to run the RobloxPlayer.exe installer. If you are, click Run to confirm.
-
Go back to your web browser and click Join. Roblox should now launch. If it doesn't, you'll need to try one of the other options in this article.
