Note that this article contains some spoilers for the first Wicked film.

All About “The Girl in the Bubble”

“The Girl in the Bubble” is one of 2 brand-new songs in Wicked: For Good. It was written by Stephen Schwartz and will be performed by Ariana Grande. According to sneak peeks and what Grande has said about the song, it seems like it will be about Glinda breaking through the “bubble” of her privileged world.

Section 1 of 3:

What is “The Girl in the Bubble” about?

  1. Since Wicked: For Good hasn’t come out yet (as of the writing of this article), “The Girl in the Bubble” hasn’t been released in its entirety. However, this short sneak peek was revealed during the Wicked: One Wonderful Night special. In the clip, Glinda sings the lines, “There’s that beautiful girl, with a beautiful life, such a beautiful life built on lies,” and “For the girl in the bubble, that big, shiny bubble, isn’t it high time for her bubble to pop.”[1]
    • With these lines in mind, it seems like the song will be a moment of introspection for Glinda as she comes to terms with the choices she’s made and the truths she’s ignored about Oz and the Wizard in order to maintain her shiny, privileged life.
    • The sneak peek also includes a voice-over of Glinda saying the line “I’d like to try to be Glinda The Good,” which suggests that the song will come at a pivotal moment in Glinda’s story arc, representing serious growth and change.
    • “The Girl in the Bubble” is one of two new songs written for Wicked: For Good. The other song is called “No Place Like Home,” and it will be performed by Cynthia Erivo.

What Wicked’s Stars & Composer Have Said About the Song

  1. Likely in an effort to avoid spoilers, Wicked’s cast and composer have stayed pretty tight-lipped about the new songs in the movie. However, Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Stephen Schwartz have each revealed small tidbits about “The Girl in the Bubble” that may provide a few clues about the song:
    • In an interview with Variety, Ariana Grande (Glinda) commented on the new song, saying, “It’s a pivotal moment in Glinda’s journey [...] It shows a side of her we’ve never seen before. In the stage show, this transformation happens offstage, but in the movie, we get to see her make the decision that defines who she is. It’s a privilege to sing this song and be the first Glinda to bring it to life.”[2]
    • In the Wicked: One Wonderful Night special, Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba) said the song “captures the moment where Glinda decides not to just call herself good, but to truly become Glinda the Good.”[3]
    • In an interview with PEOPLE magazine in June of 2025, Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz said he was still working on new music for Wicked: For Good, and that one of the songs was a solo for Glinda. He explained that the new songs were added because “the storytelling demanded it.”[4]
