Tips for Picking an Outfit
Take the weather into account. If it’s going to be sunny and hot outside, it’s probably not the best idea to go with that chunky knit sweater, even if you totally love it. The same goes for cold weather—you don’t want to be shivering in a sundress or tanktop when it’s freezing out! At the end of the day, you want to be comfortable, so make sure to pick an ensemble that’s appropriate for the temperature.
Consider the occasion. You may be dying to wear that brand-new formal mini-dress, but if you’re just headed out to dinner at a casual spot, it might be too much. On the flip side, if you’re invited to a nice dinner party at someone’s house, you don’t want to show up in sweats and a tee–this makes it seem like you didn’t put an effort into your appearance for this special occasion. When in doubt, check in with the people you have plans with and ask what they’re wearing. This is a great way to get an idea of the right vibe!
Figure out what your best colors are. If you want to build an amazing wardrobe, it’s a good idea to figure out what colors suit you best. For example, if you have warm undertones, you’ll likely look best in earthy neutrals, like cream, beige, tan, and brown. On the other hand, if you have cool undertones, you’ll likely look best in cool neutrals, like ivory, grey, taupe, and black.
Have fun and allow yourself to experiment. Remember, fashion is about self-expression, so don’t be afraid to get creative and try different things while you’re figuring out your personal style. Wear things that bring you joy and make you feel confident, and you can’t go wrong!
