Fun Facts About Phineas and Ferb

  • The show’s creators voice two major characters. Series creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff Marsh are the voices of Dr. Doofenshmirtz and Major Monogram, respectively. This makes perfect sense, too! Dr. Doofenshmirtz is usually the one building all sorts of crazy contraptions, and Major Monogram is usually the one keeping him in check. They’re like two halves of the same whole, just like Povenmire and Marsh!
  • Ferb almost wasn’t British. Before the creators decided that Ferb would be British, they originally intended for him to be American and even picked Mitchell Musso as his voice actor. But after the pilot episode, they decided to make him British based on creator Jeff Marsh’s time in England, recasting him as Thomas Brodie-Sangster and giving Musso the role of Jeremy Johnson.
  • Although the show premiered in 2008, it was in development since 1993. The series creators came up with the idea for Phineas and Ferb all the way back in the early 90s, but after pitching it to networks like Nickelodeon and Fox, it was rejected out of perceived over-complexity. Luckily, Disney would eventually pick the show up, and the rest is history!
  • The show was inspired by Dan Povenmire’s mother. As a child, series creator Dan Povenmire’s mom told him to never waste a day of summer. So when he was a kid in Mobile, Alabama, Dan made sure to occupy himself taking on fun, random projects, like making movies and digging holes. This laid the groundwork for Phineas and Ferb, as Dan took this same mentality to the showroom and infused it into the show.
