Aspiring Mangaka—aka Charles Bernard—was the 14th character added to Jujutsu Shenanigans. But where did he come from, and what can he do? Don’t worry, we have the answers to all of your burning questions! In this article, we'll cover who Aspiring Mangaka is, what his moveset includes (and doesn’t), and his JJK backstory.

Aspiring Mangaka in Jujutsu Shenanigans

Aspiring Mangaka is one of 4 base-only characters in JJS, meaning he doesn’t have a domain expansion or Awakening moveset. He’s based on Charles Bernard from JJK, who dreams of creating manga before he’s forced to fight in the Culling Games. He fights with a spear that has a pen tip for a blade.

Aspiring Mangaka’s Moveset

  1. Aspiring Mangaka’s weapon is the G-Warstaff, a spear with a pen-like tip. The pen tip and trail are white, but as his Awakening Bar fills, both gradually turn red. His base attacks include:[1]
    • Ability 1—Despair: Rapid spear thrusts, with a final unblockable hit that ragdolls the opponent and knocks them back.[2]
    • Ability 2—Shut Up!: A backwards spear thrust that grabs the opponent, followed by a kick that sends the opponent sliding backwards. This move can be used while the opponent is airborne.
    • Ability 3—Eye Catching: A spinning counter move that blocks melee attacks or bullets.Ability 4—Sacrilege: A spear twirl followed by a thrust. If the hit lands, text boxes appear that say, “Stop desecrating this work!” and “Did you even read the original properly?”
    • Special (R)—Clairvoyance: The player can mark their opponent, forcing them to side dash by pressing the R button. Aspiring Mangaka will gain increased time for parrying attacks and a slight edge over the opponent for the next attack. It’s also useful for setting up combos.[3]
  2. When Aspiring Mangaka’s Awakening Bar is full, players can activate Foresight. This special move uses the spear as a defensive weapon, blocking a melee attack and knocking the opponent backwards.[4]
    • If the opponent was marked by the special move Clairvoyance, or if their HP is below 40, the Awakening will trigger a cutscene that unleashes a powerful attack and heals Aspiring Mangake for 21.25 HP.[5]

Is Aspiring Mangaka a good choice in JJS?

PDF download Download Article
  1. Aspiring Mangaka only has base moves, so you can’t trigger a powerful Domain Expansion the way you can with characters like Sukuna, Mahito, or Gojo. And with only 85 HP (most characters start at 100), it doesn’t take much damage to defeat him.[7]
    • When Aspiring Mangaka’s Awakening is full, his G-Warstaff turns red, so it’s easy for other players to know ahead of time when you’re going to use Foresight.
    • That said, his base moves, counters, and combos are really solid, so some people do like playing as him.[8] He’s considered to have a pretty high skill ceiling—meaning the more you practice his combos, the better you’ll be able to use him.[9]

Charles Bernard’s Backstory from Jujutsu Kaisen

PDF download Download Article
  1. In JJK, Charles is an aspiring manga creator. But after manga production was stopped following the Shibuya Incident, his dreams were put on hold.[10] Kenjaku gives him the ability to develop a cursed technique, and Charles manifests his weapon, the G Warstaff—a spear with a long feather and a pen tip for a blade.[11]
    • Charles was forced to battle in the Culling Games. When he struggled to find a reason to engage in combat, Kinji Hakari mocked his passion for manga, fueling Charles’ anger enough to fight.
    • During the battle, Charles discovers that when he draws blood from an opponent with his G Warstaff, it gives him the ability to see 1–2 seconds into the future, as long as he can see his opponent.
    • Hakari ultimately defeats Charles, telling him to go back to drawing manga and that the Culling Games will soon end.
