You can see when someone is typing, but not what they are typing. There are some pretty convincing TikToks that make it look like the creator can see their friends typing responses to their Snaps before they hit send, but don't be fooled. These videos were created by (or edited with) AI, and there is no real way to see what people are typing in a Snap until they actually send the message.
- Even if a TikToker claims you can install an app that exposes what people are typing on Snapchat with a "Snapchat visibility feature," these apps do not work.

Half-swipe a message to take a peek without opening. One way to see what someone sent you in a Snapchat chat is to "half-swipe" from the Chats page. Just keep in mind that if the person you're chatting with has Snapchat Plus, they can use the Peek a Peek feature mentioned above to see if you used a half-swipe. To half-swipe on Snapchat:
- Go to the Chats page.
- Gently tap and hold the person's icon next to the message and slowly swipe to the right.
- Don't swipe all the way–swipe about halfway, and don't lift your finger from the screen.
- Don't let go at any point, and make sure there's a little space between the right edge of the screen.
- After you've taken a peek, swipe back to the left to return to the Chats page.

Read a Snapchat message without the person knowing. Want to stealthily open a chat without your friend knowing? If you don't want to feel pressured to reply right away, you can put your phone in airplane mode, then open the chat, then delete and reinstall the app. This should work even if your friend has Snapchat Plus, as it won't count as a "peek." Here's how to do the trick:
- When you get the notification, open the Snapchat Chats tab, but don't tap on the message just yet.
  - Note: Some people have found that this hack isn't as reliable as it used to be, so give it a test run first.
- Turn on airplane mode. To do this, you'll usually just swipe down from the top or top-right area of the screen and tap the airplane icon.
- Return to Snapchat and tap the chat you want to read.
- After you're done reading it, close Snapchat, then delete the app from your phone (iPhone) or clear the app's data (Android).
- Turn off airplane mode, then reinstall Snapchat from the App Store (if you're using an iPhone).
- When you sign back in to Snapchat, the message will still appear as if you haven't opened it, even though you have!
Even though you're technically only supposed to watch a Snap once, you can actually replay it as long as you haven't left the Chat screen yet. To replay a Snap, long-press a friend on the Chat screen, then tap the Snap to watch it again.^{[3]
