The consequences of cutting or defending Invisigal in episode 7
PDF download Download Article

Dispatch dishes out more than one difficult decision for players to make—but few are more agonizing than the decision to defend Invisigal’s actions or cut her from the Z-Team in episode 7 (“Retrospective”). On the one hand, nobody wants to upset their entire team; on the other, the Phoenix program is all about giving former villains chances to be heroes. So, what happens if you choose to cut Invisigal? We can explain! Read on for a complete guide to the consequences of cutting (or defending) Invisigal, and what that means for your Dispatch playthrough.

The Consequences of Cutting Invisigal in Dispatch

Cutting Invisigal in Dispatch results in Robert losing trust in Visi (which can lead to getting the “bad mentor” ending). The Z-Team supports this choice and, as a result, has normal (good) morale during the final dispatch shift in episode 8; however, Invisigal won’t show up to help during the shift.

  1. The rest of the team gives Robert an ultimatum, telling him that they (or the majority of them, at least) want Invisigal gone. If Robert honors their wishes and cuts her, this will lead to the Z-Team having normal (good) morale during the final episode—when Shroud’s forces attack Los Angeles.[1]
    • The Z-Team will also appreciate Robert listening to them, as the only members who don’t want Visi gone are Golem (and, depending on previous decisions, Flambae).
  2. There’s a drawback to cutting Invisigal: it’ll negatively impact Robert’s “mentor” score and contribute to his “Antihero” ending. The game doesn’t tell you that it’s measuring those particular stats, but here’s the technical point breakdown: cutting Visi results in 5 Bad Mentor points and 1 Antihero point. Additionally, Invisigal won’t return during episode 8’s dispatch shift to help.[2]
    • Enough “Bad Mentor” points will trigger the game’s bad ending, in which Invisigal kills Shroud, takes his mask, and disappears, choosing a life of villainy.
    • Meanwhile, getting the “Antihero” ending basically just means Robert didn’t always take the moral high ground in the game, ultimately becoming more antihero than hero.

What happens if you defend Invisigal in Dispatch?

  1. If you choose DEFEND rather than CUT, the opposite happens: the Z-Team is upset, but Robert’s relationship with Invisigal improves. Behind the scenes, defending Visi earns 5 Good Mentor points and 1 Hero point for Robert. Story-wise, Visi will still be part of the Z-Team—and she’ll show up to help during the dispatch shift in episode 8, even though she’s suspended.
    • Choosing to defend Invisigal will improve your chances of getting the “good mentor” ending, in which Visi takes a bullet for Robert and chooses to continue being a hero.
  2. Technically, defending Invisigal doesn’t have a long-term effect on Robert’s relationship with the Z-Team—but it’ll result in the entire team (except Golem) having low morale during episode 8’s dispatch shift. Low morale means the team will have reduced stats, which can make the dispatch shift more of a challenge (but the morale hit is balanced out by Visi coming to help).[3]
    • The rest of episode 7 won’t be too different, no matter what you choose, save for a slight difference in Robert’s scene with Invisigal. It’s only during episode 8 that the decision really has an effect!

Cutting vs. Defending Invisigal in Dispatch

  1. After Invisigal defies orders to get the Astral Pulse—resulting in Chase being left near death—she’s suspended from the Z-Team, leaving the rest of the team furious over her actions. After episode 7’s dispatch shift, the team gathers to tell Robert that they’ve voted, and they want Invisigal to be cut. At this point, Robert is given a choice: CUT or DEFEND.[4]
    • CUT - Robert agrees to cut Invisigal from the Z-Team. Everyone except Golem (and, variably, Flambae) is in favor of this.
    • DEFEND - Robert defends Invisigal and insists on giving her another chance, disappointing the rest of the Z-Team.
  2. By the game’s standards, defending Invisigal is the heroic thing to do and cutting her is the bad choice—but it’s really down to how you feel, in the end. You can defend Visi or cut her, based on personal preference. Just be aware that the decision will most likely affect your ending in Dispatch, so if you care about that, make your decisions accordingly!
    • For instance, if you definitely want the good ending, you should pick DEFEND. If you want to see the bad ending, pick CUT.

If you cut Invisigal, can you still romance her?

  1. Invisigal will still kiss Robert in the locker room if he forgives her (with players able to choose whether Robert kisses her back or leans away). If you romance Visi and get the “good mentor” ending, the romance will proceed just like it would have if you’d kept her on the team. However, if you romance Invisigal and get the “bad mentor” ending (where Visi kills Shroud and leaves), the romance will more or less end there.[5]
    • Since cutting Invisigal puts you at risk of earning the “bad mentor” ending, you might have a bit of a doomed romance—but either way, the relationship won’t be cut off right when you cut her.
Section 5 of 5:

Does cutting Invisigal guarantee the “bad” ending?

PDF download Download Article
  1. Here’s the thing: cutting Invisigal doesn’t lock in a particular ending, it just subtracts a higher number of “mentor” points from Robert’s score—meaning Visi loses trust in him, as explained above. If you’ve lost trust with Invisigal in other parts of the game, too, this choice can result in Visi choosing to embrace the life of a villain, leading to the “bad mentor” ending
    • Basically, unless you’re really confident that you’ve done everything else right with Invisigal, don’t cut her unless you’re okay with getting the “bad mentor” ending.
  2. Earning enough points throughout the rest of the game can effectively balance out the hit for cutting Invisigal, letting you get the “good mentor” ending anyway. The only thing is, the game doesn’t tell you when you earn points, or show you your relationship stats with Invisigal, so it’s hard to know when you’ve done enough to cut her and still get the good ending.
    • Dispatching Invisigal on missions and leveling her up to at least Rank 8 are also part of getting the “good mentor” ending, so there are definitely other factors involved.
    • There are also other dialogue choices where you can gain “good mentor” points, including untying her in episode 8.
    • Dispatch players have reported cutting Visi and still getting her to be a hero in the end, so it is possible!
