And even among people who do have them, they’re more visible on some than others.
    • Back dimples tend to be more common in women, but many men have them, too.

  1. Back dimples are often considered a sign of beauty (hence their being named after Venus, the Roman goddess of beauty), so you may be curious about how to get them. Unfortunately, if you weren’t born with them, there’s no way to get them. However, if you do have back dimples, losing body fat can make them more apparent.   1. While both back dimples and sacral dimples lie along the sacrum bone on the lower back, they’re not the same. The sacral dimple is a single indentation that rests above the buttocks. The sacral dimple also tends to get less noticeable as you age, while back dimples tend to stay prominent (though their appearance can change with weight loss and gain).[9]
    • Both types of dimples are largely considered harmless. However, the sacral dimple can sometimes indicate underlying spinal issues like spina bifida and a tethered spinal cord.
