What do you think of "The Life of a Showgirl"?
- I love the album! That's not surprising, though, since there’s honestly no TS album that I don’t like. To me, The Life of a Showgirl definitely delivered against my expectations of what a Taylor, Max Martin, and Shellback reunion would be.
- My favorite on the album is Honey — think it flows so smoothly, and while it is a love song, it’s also narrated in a way that highlights her journey and traumatic, yet universal experiences that really stuck with her. It has the vulnerable, relatable, and vivid descriptions that are so central to Taylor’s songwriting.
- Actually Romantic was the most shocking topic-wise. I definitely thought that was about to be a Travis song and it was…not…hahaha. I do agree with the internet thinking it’s Charli XCX...
- I also noticed she uses a ton of color in this album. I’m still digesting a lot of those mentions, but it makes me think of “I’m just getting color back into my face”, and this album now having a lot of bright color mentions.
- It gets better with every listen, gag after gag, I couldn’t believe it.
- These are the lyrics I was hoping for on Reputation — Taylor Swift has never sounded this confident in herself. She’s daddy and she knows it.
- ‘Cancelled’ was instantly one of my favorites, and I still can’t get over ‘Actually Romantic’ — the shade made my wig fly.
- It’s Taylor in pop mode, but like we’ve never heard her before.

Rather than being about one single person, I'm interpreting the song as being about a collective group of power-hungry individuals. While we could narrow it down to one individual who may have wronged Taylor in the past, I think the song is about egotistical leaders overall—those who feel like they can shape and manipulate others with the promise to fulfill dreams.

I feel like it was exactly as she described it. It is a pop album – perfectly pop. It was the exact kind of upbeat that I was hoping for coming off of an album like The Tortured Poets Department, which was so dense. I loved that album so much, but it was dense. It took a long time to understand and chew through, and sit with. And Life of a Showgirl is almost the complete opposite of that. I was instantly dancing on my couch (and I'm not a dancer) and immediately singing the chorus along on the second time. And it was easy for me to immediately latch on to and love it.
I think the song that's probably going to go down as one of the iconic tracks from this album is either The Fate of Ophelia or Opalite. I think they both represent the album as a whole really, really well. I think my favorites right now, though, are Father Figure and The Life of a Showgirl.
With The Life of a Showgirl as a track, Taylor did a couple of things for us. We've been asking for a strong feature with a female artist for a very long time. There's Nothing New with Phoebe Bridgers, but other than that, a lot of her female features have not had super in front vocals. She even re-recorded "Snow on the Beach" with more Lana Del Rey, as fans were asking for more. I think off the top, the fact that The Life of a Showgirl features so much of Sabrina Carpenter is what fans were asking for. It also gives us another example of really vivid storytelling, bringing the fans in with that Vancouver audio, which also brings us back to that moment at the Eras Tour when the confetti fell and Taylor was waving goodbye with her dancers and her backup singers. She captured that moment of euphoria at the end of the show and then put it into a song.

The songs are really catchy (I think) and it may be just because I haven't listened to it as obsessively as the other albums, but I think this is the best yet! The songs all hold great lyrics and meaning as well.
