Learn exactly how to recreate the poses yourself

Whether you’re a fan of Dragon Ball or you’re just looking for ideas for a group picture, it doesn’t get much better than the poses performed by the Ginyu Force. For a fun group photo, have 5 friends each pick a character so you can recreate the Ginyu Force team pose. Or, if you really want to level up your fandom, practice doing the individual poses before striking the team pose. And of course, we couldn’t leave out Captain Ginyu’s famous one-handed battle pose! Let’s get started.

How do you recreate the Ginyu Force pose?

  • Ginyu: Crouch down with one knee on the ground and your arms down in a V.
  • Guldo: Stand with your legs spread, left knee bent, and arms in front of your body.
  • Jeice: Lunge to the right in a wide stance and lift your left fist in the air.
  • Recoome: Stand backwards in a wide stance, right arm bent and left arm extended, looking over your shoulder.
  • Burter: Stand on your right foot with your left leg bent and arms straight out beside you.

  1. If you’re taking a video recreating the Ginyu Force intro, have each person do their individual pose in the order listed below, then group together for the team pose. But if you’re just posing for a picture, it’s okay to skip the individual poses and go straight to the team pose. Here’s what to do:[1]
    • Captain Ginyu: Stand in the front center. Crouch down so your left knee is touching the ground and your right knee is bent in front of you. Hold your arms down in a wide V shape with only your index fingers extended.
    • Guldo: Stand just behind and to your right of Captain Ginyu, with your legs spread wide and your left knee slightly bent. Hold your arms in front of your body with your hands clasped.
    • Jeice: Stand behind and slightly to your left of Captain Ginyu. Lunge down so your right knee is bent (it probably won’t be visible in the group pose) and your left leg is extended straight out behind you. Raise both fists, but bend your right arm so your fist is beside your face, and raise your left fist straight up into the air.
    • Recoome: Stand with your back to the camera or audience so you’re just behind Guldo. Stand with your feet at a wide diagonal, with your left leg behind you and your right leg in front, both knees slightly bent. Hold your left arm up with your elbow and wrist each bent at a 90° angle, and stretch your right arm out to the side. Look over your right shoulder at the camera.
    • Burter: Stand behind and to your left of Jeice. Balance on your right foot, bringing your left knee up toward your chest. Hold both arms straight out to the sides.

  1. Stand with your feet hip-width apart and your toes turned out, holding your hands down by your sides in loose fists. Keep your body tense and bring your arms in front of your body, then push them back out again. In one smooth motion, drop down so your left leg is out to the side with your knee bent at a 90° angle, and your right leg extended out straight beside you, toes pointed.[2]
    • Once you hit that pose, snap your arms up so your right arm is bent in front of your body and your left arm is extended straight out at an angle. Try to pose so your right leg and left arm form a perfectly straight diagonal line.
    • To prevent injury, keep your left knee in line over your foot when you crouch down.
  2. Stand with your feet hip-width apart, toes turned out, holding your arms down by your sides. Draw your shoulders back and push your chest forward, then lean forward for just a moment before dropping into a mirror of Recoome’s stance: right knee bent out to the side at a 90° angle, left leg straight out to the side, toes pointed.[3]
    • Once you’re in this stance, snap your arms up so your left arm is bent in front of your body and your right arm creates a straight diagonal line with your left leg.
  3. Start in a wide-leg stance with your arms by your sides. Toss your hair to one side (pass it in front of your face, if it’s long enough), then toss your head forward so your hair covers your face. At the same time, drop down so your left knee is on the ground and the right one is bent at a 90° angle in front of you.[4]
    • From here, snap your head up so your hair falls back behind your head. Then, lift your arms in a V above your head, with your wrists bent sharply, your palms face down, and your fingers pointing out to the sides—like a crane.
  4. Start in a wide stance with your arms by your sides, then lift your arms straight up above your head. Do a small leap, then crouch down so your right knee is on the ground, and your left leg is in front of you, with your knee at a 90° angle. When you land in the crouch, have your right arm straight up and your left arm bent in front of you at the elbow and wrist, like a praying mantis.[5]
    • Bring your right arm down so both of your arms are in a mantis position, then snap them up so they’re straight above your head and sharply bent at the wrists, like a crane pose.
  5. Turn with your back to the camera or audience and spread your feet apart in a wide stance. Bend forward at the hips with your arms out straight by your side. Then, hinge forward more until you’re looking through your legs. Snap your arms in so they’re bent at the elbows with your fingers spread wide just above your head (or technically below, since they’re closer to the ground).[6]
    • When you hit the final pose, have your mouth open wide.

  1. Captain Ginyu should be in the center, with Guldo and Recoome to his right and Jeice and Burter to his left. Here’s how everyone should pose:[7]
    • Captain Ginyu: Stand on your toes with your knees bent and your feet pressed together from the ball through the heel. Lean forward slightly and extend your arms up in a V with fingers up straight and your thumbs folded in.
    • Guldo: Stand on your left leg and draw your right knee up so your shin is parallel to the ground. Bend your left arm and hold your hand straight in front of your body, palm up with your thumb folded in. Hold your right hand up in the air with your wrist bent in like a crane.
    • Jeice: Mirror Guldo’s position: Stand on your right leg with your left knee up. Bend your right arm in with your hand in front of your body and your thumb folded in, and hold your right arm straight up with your wrist bent in a crane position.
    • Recoome: Stand facing away from the camera, bent forward at the waist. Push your arms slightly behind you with your wrists bent upwards and your thumbs folded in. Look at the camera over your outside (left) shoulder.
    • Burter: Mirror Recoome’s pose: Stand facing away from the camera, bending forward with your arms slightly behind you and your wrists bent upward. Look at the camera over your outside (right) shoulder.

  1. In one DBFZ scene, Ginyu tells Gohan this is his best pose. Crouch down and plant one hand securely on the ground behind you. Leap up so both legs are in the air in front of you in a wide V. Hold your other arm up with your elbow bent and your thumb, index, and middle fingers extended and spaced far apart.
    • Be ready to capture this one quickly if you do it—it’s hard to hold!
