The original Dunkaroos - a sweet, white icing-like product perfect for cookies came out. Then, several years later, they left store shelves. Yet, with that, they came back out about 10 years later and left even quicker than their first iteration. Now they are out again and have been out for a few years, but now fans of the product have tried to find the homemade recipe to make this dip! With this quick recipe below, you can make it, so it's never lost if these Dunkaroos go missing, too.

Ingredients

  • 1 box Pillsbury Funfetti: Vanilla and Candy Bits flavor cake mix
    • 15.25 oz or 19.4 oz are both okay
    • Avoid the Funfetti cake mix flavored as Strawberry and Candy Bits flavor.
  • 1 cup vanilla yogurt
  • 1 tsp butter extract
  • 8 oz tub Cool Whip
    • Use the ones coming from tubs to keep the consistency the same as the original.
  • Multi-colored sprinkles
  • Graham crackers
  1. 1
Prepare a clean area without too many obstructions. Use a level workspace such as a table or other sturdy board.
  2. 2
Start by adding your cake mix to a bowl. Use a large mixing bowl and a whisk. Place the entire cake mix into the bowl, except for the box and wrapper.
    • If you don't have or don't want Funfetti Cake Mix, substitute a completely white-based cake.
    • Avoid taking the quick route, which Betty Crocker mentioned - using just their Original Rainbow Chip Frosting.[1] Most knock-off recipes call for Funfetti cake mix.
    • You could also try an angel food cake mix for a lighter, fluffier batter.

Add the yogurt, butter extract, and Cool Whip to this cake mix.
    • Avoid colored yogurt. Original Dunkaroos dip was white, so to make a homemade knockoff of it, avoid strawberry and blueberry yogurt, unless you absolutely can't do without it, and don't mind a slight flavor and color change.
    • If you don't have the yogurt, you can try cream cheese, but it may taste more like cheesecake.
    • For the butter extract, you may substitute vanilla extract, and be almost identical to the original taste.
    • You can substitute either homemade, canned whipped cream for the Cool Whip, though you might find it makes a slightly different texture.
  4. 4
Use a whisk to ensure complete mixing. You'll need to mix it until the batter is smooth.
  5. 5
Add the colored sprinkles. Sprinkle several sprinkles evenly in the dish. With these, they made sure to include tons of fun colors for a festive atmosphere.
    • Avoid a complete layer of sprinkles, but make sure that sprinkles can be found in every serving the eaters take.
  6. 6
Make sure to re-combine the mixture.
  7. 7
Serve the batter. Use dishes, and spoon out no more than 2 tablespoons of the dip into the dish.
    • You can go back and forth to get more batter for the dip, at subsequent times. However, start with only 2 tablespoons.
  8. 8
Come as close to the Dunkaroo cookies as possible. Serve with animal crackers, if possible. However, you may serve them with Graham crackers, if not.
    • The original recipe mentioned using Vanilla Wafers. However, that gave a remarkably different taste to the taste of the original, which only some fans allow. (Others won't, because it isn't the classic taste they will remember.)
