Everything to know about getting more smithing templates
PDF download Download Article

Have you found a smithing template and you're wondering how you can make more? Unlike other items in Minecraft, you can't directly craft a smithing template. However, if you have at least one of them, you can duplicate the smithing template with 7 diamonds and a block of material that correlates to the template. In this article we'll go over what materials you need, how to duplicate a template, and where to find each smithing template.

Quick Steps

  1. Obtain a smithing template.
  2. Gather 7 diamonds.
  3. Get 1 block of material that correlates to the template.
  4. Place the template, diamonds, and material into a crafting grid.
  5. Collect the duplicated template.

Duplicating Smithing Templates

  1. It's impossible to create a smithing template if you don't already have at least one.[1] To duplicate a smithing template, you'll need 1 smithing template, 7 diamonds, and one of the following materials, depending on which template you're trying to duplicate:
    • Netherrack: Netherite Upgrade or Rib Armor Trim
    • Cobblestone: Sentry Armor Trim, Vex Armor Trim, or Coast Armor Trim
    • Mossy Cobblestone: Wild Armor Trim
    • Sandstone: Dune Armor Trim
    • Terracotta: Wayfinder Armor Trim, Raiser Armor Trim, Shaper Armor Trim, or Host Armor Trim
    • Cobbled Deepslate: Ward Armor Trim or Silence Armor Trim
    • Prismarine: Tide Armor Trim
    • Blackstone: Snout Armor Trim
    • End Stone: Eye Armor Trim
    • Purpur Block: Spire Armor Trim
    • Breeze Rod: Flow Armor Trim
  2. In the 3x3 crafting grid, place the smithing template in the top middle slot, the material in the middle slot, and the diamonds in the remaining spots around the edge of the grid.
    • Once you do this, the smithing template will be consumed, but you'll get two smithing templates back—one to replace the original, and the duplicated copy.
