PDF download Download Article

Did you know you can scroll TikTok horizontally to get a totally different For You feed? Now that TikTok lets creators upload horizontal videos, you can get to a secret scrolling mode by tapping "Full Screen" on any qualifying video, then rotating your phone to watch in landscape mode. You'll still technically be scrolling vertically, but your feed will be totally different! Read on to learn how to scroll horizontally on TikTok using your Android or iPhone.

How do you scroll horizontally on TikTok?

While you can't "scroll horizontally" by swiping left or right, you can scroll through horizontal videos to see a totally different feed. If you see a video that says "Full Screen," tap it, then turn your phone to the side. From there, swipe through the feed to see all horizontal videos.

How to Scroll Horizontally

  1. If you come across a horizontal video in your For You or Following feed, you'll see an icon on the video that says "Full Screen." Horizontal videos are still pretty new, so you may have to swipe for a while before you find one.[1]
    • Horizontal scrolling won't work if you search for a full-screen video! You have to find one by chance in your feed.
  2. When you tap Full Screen, the video will display horizontally and take up the whole screen. Rotate your phone to the side so you can see the video as intended.[2]

  3. When you start scrolling from a horizontal video, you'll only see horizontal videos in your feed. You still need to scroll up and down–if you try scrolling left or right, it won't work!
    • Because you'll only see horizontal videos with this trick, your TikTok feed will be pretty different from what you usually see! Many people on TikTok have found that horizontal videos often have better quality and cooler effects than regular vertical videos.

Troubleshooting

  1. If you want to scroll through TikTok's horizontal videos, you can't have your screen locked in vertical mode. To allow your screen to rotate, you need to turn on auto rotation:
    • Android
      • If you have a Samsung phone, open your Quick Settings and look for the screen orientation icon. If it says Portrait or Landscape, tap it to activate Auto Rotate.[4]
      • On other Androids, open Settings, tap Display & Touch, then enable "Auto-rotate screen."[5]
    • iPhone
      • Swipe down from the upper-right corner to open the Control Center.
      • If the padlock icon surrounded by an arrow is enabled (red), tap it to turn it off (gray).
  2. Sorry, you're going to have to wait until a full-screen video pops up in your feed naturally! If you search for a full-screen or horizontal video on TikTok and tap Full Screen, you won't be able to scroll through horizontal videos.
    • You might have to scroll for a while before you find a full-screen video. Just keep scrolling, and one will eventually appear.
  3. 3
Make sure you're scrolling left to right. Even though a lot of people call this trick "horizontal scrolling," you're not really scrolling horizontally–you're just scrolling through horizontal videos. You still need to swipe up and down to scroll through the horizontal feed.
