PDF download Download Article

If you’re a Jujutsu Kaisen fan catching up on the manga, you might be wondering about Sukuna’s terrifying summoned familiar, Agito—and we’re here to fill you in. Agito is a powerful shikigami, and a fusion of four other shikigami, with powers and physical traits from each. In this article, we’ll introduce you to Merged Beast Agito, its abilities, and the role it plays in Jujutsu Kaisen (specifically, Sukuna’s momentous battle with Gojo). Just be warned: there are spoilers ahead!

An Introduction to Merged Beast Agito

Merged Beast Agito—or simply Agito—is a shikigami summoned by Sukuna. Agito is a combination of four other shikigami; this gives Agito a monstrous, chimera-like form, with bird feathers, a mask for a face, deer’s antlers, a tiger’s body, and a snake on its tail. It can also regenerate and manipulate electricity.

  1. In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, shikigami are monsters that can be summoned to serve as familiars for jujutsu sorcerers—brought into being by cursed energy.[1] One shikigami alone can be dangerous, and Agito is the amalgamation of four: Nue, combined with Great Serpent, Tiger Funeral, and Round Deer.
    • Nue is a winged, owl-like shikigami with a white, mask-like skull in place of a face.
    • Great Serpent is a huge snake-like shikigami with a white body and black markings.
    • Tiger Funeral is a shikigami whose form has yet to be shown in Jujutsu Kaisen.
    • Round Deer is a towering deer-like shikigami.
    • All of the above shikigami—including Agito—are summoned using the Ten Shadows Technique (from the Zenin clan).
  2. As a creature made up of several others, Merged Beast Agito’s physical form has aspects of them all. Its body has a feathery mane, feathered arms, claws, and a face mask (like Nue), plus antlers sprouting from its head (matching Round Deer’s). Its torso is feminine with black tiger stripes and cat-like feet (presumably to match Tiger Funeral), and a tail ending in a snake head (for Great Serpent).[2]
    • Altogether, Agito makes for a pretty terrifying sight! Its body is also powerful and muscular, and it wears black hakama bottoms.

Merged Beast Agito’s Powers in Jujutsu Kaisen

  1. Nue—one of the shikigami from which Agito is made—has the ability to manipulate electricity using its wings.[3] Agito has a similar ability and can generate electricity with its palms to stun and hurt its summoner’s enemies. Its electricity can also disrupt an opponent’s actions, making it formidable in battle.
  2. The Round Deer shikigami can produce positive energy through the reverse cursed technique, healing its summoner and foiling its opponent’s cursed energy. As a result, Agito has those same abilities, making it a versatile shikigami; it can support its summoner and keep them alive in addition to going on the attack with its more offensive abilities.
  3. Agito can utilize Tiger Funeral’s strength and footwork, as well as the Great Serpent’s speed and agility. That means Agito is capable of striking enemies quickly and forcefully—as if it wasn’t already an incredibly powerful summon! And, on top of all that, Agito is proven to be very resilient and adaptable on the battlefield, too.
  4. Agito isn’t just a creature of brute force; in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, when summoned by Sukuna, Agito is capable of using advanced tactics and working cohesively with Mahoraga (the other shikigami that Sukuna summoned). Of course, Sukuna does control them both, but the fact remains that Agito most definitely isn’t mindless—it has intelligence.

How was Merged Beast Agito used in JJK’s story?

PDF download Download Article
  1. Spoiler alert for the manga! In the midst of battle, the King of Curses uses Nue: Totality and combines Nue with the other three shikigami, forming Merged Beast Agito. From there, Sukuna, Agito, and the shikigami Mahoraga (which had already been summoned) fight in tandem to attack Gojo.[4]
    • Sukuna’s summoning of Agito is a key moment in the battle, because it shows just how desperate he is to defeat Gojo (and how strong Gojo is, to be able to fend off the three of them).
  2. It’s well-established in Jujutsu Kaisen that Gojo is an unrivaled master of hand-to-hand combat, and in this particular battle, he uses those skills to evade both Agito and Mahoraga’s attacks. Gojo even manages to wound Agito with Black Flash and even rip the head off of its snake tail, although Agito simply regenerates from both injuries.[5]
    • Gojo is also able to disrupt Agito’s electrical attack, figuring out that Agito was repeating its attack patterns and using that knowledge to his advantage.
  3. Once Agito shows off its regenerative abilities, Gojo figures out that he’ll need to deal with Agito—otherwise, it can keep on healing Sukuna. So, with all three attacking him (and Mahoraga even slicing off his right arm at one point), Gojo manages to launch a counterattack with Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue and gets Agito’s body to implode on itself.[6]
    • Agito is ultimately destroyed, reminding fans for the thousandth time why Gojo is the absolute best of the best (and he knows it).
    • Nonetheless, Agito’s summoning also goes a long way toward expending Gojo’s energy and strength—and he’s left still fighting Sukuna and Mahoraga afterward.

Is Agito stronger than other shikigami in JJK?

  1. Agito may not outshine Mahoraga, a shikigami with the ability to evolve beyond any jujutsu sorcery technique, but Agito is certainly more powerful than most other shikigami out there. Being made from the bodies of four different shikigami gives Agito an impressive amount of versatility in battle, not to mention size, strength, and power.
    • Although their strength hasn’t officially been measured or compared, Agito is probably stronger than all other shikigami in Jujutsu Kaisen besides Mahoraga.
