In The Forge, having the right armor is essential—without the right equipment, you won’t be able to fend off stronger enemies in the areas with the rarest ores. Good armor maximizes your defense multiplier while combining traits that work well together. Not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered with the best early, mid, and late game armor recipes for the brand-new Island 3, Island 2, and even recommendations for Island 1 if you’re just starting out.

  1. If you’re just getting to Island 3, keep these ores in your inventory until you have enough to craft this armor. It’s a solid early-game armor that’s strong enough to help you fight your way through Island 3, gathering the ores you need for mid- and late-game equipment.

  3. Try this armor set for a mid- to late-game Island 3 option that will help you take on tougher enemies. You’ll get a big defense boost from the huge multipliers you’ll get from these ores, plus increased vitality and attack. Also, the Velchire’s movement speed boost more than makes up for the movement speed debuff from the Frost Fossil.
    • Chestplate: 16 Etherealite, 12 Frost Fossil, 12 Velchire
      • Multiplier: 7.44x
      • Max DEF: 550

      • Multiplier: 7.44x
      • Max DEF: 446

    • Helmet: 10 Etherealite, 8 Frost Fossil, 8 Velchire
      • Multiplier: 7.35x
      • Max DEF: 389
      • Traits: 35% Vitality (Etherealite); 17.5% Lethality, -5% Movement Speed (Frost Fossil); 20% Movement Speed (Velchire)
  4. While most armor recipes focus on the traits, this one is more about pure defense. Suryafal doesn’t have a trait, but it adds a 15x multiplier to your equipment. It will take a while to mine the ores needed for this set, but it’s worth it—this is the strongest armor in the game so far.[1]
    • Chestplate: 20 Etherealite, 16 Suryafal, 16 Sanctis
      • Multiplier: 10.73x
      • Max DEF: 794
      • Traits: 35% Vitality (Etherealite); 18% Stamina/Endurance (Sanctis)

Island 2 Armor Recipes: Forgotten Islands

PDF download Download Article
  1. This armor set doesn’t have any traits like you’ll find with later-game armor, and it won’t hold up to stronger enemies. But it’s a lot stronger than anything you can make on Island 1, and the ores are pretty easy to obtain once you upgrade to a Mythril pickaxe.
    • Chestplate: 16 Ruby, 10 Emerald, 10 Cuprite
      • Multiplier: 2.69x
      • Max DEF: 134.72
      • Traits: None
    • Leggings: 12 Ruby, 10 Emerald, 8 Cuprite
      • Multiplier: 2.68x
      • Max DEF: 117
      • Traits: None
    • Helmet: 8 Ruby, 8 Emerald, 8 Cuprite
      • Multiplier: 2.64x
      • Max DEF: 99
      • Traits: None
  2. Once you start collecting rarer ores on Island 2, save them up to make this solid mid-game armor. It will help you dive deeper into the Volcanic Caves on Island 2, so you’ll be able to fight stronger enemies and get even rarer ores.
    • Chestplate: 13 Mythril, 10 Eye Ore, 10 Obsidian
      • Multiplier: 3.30x
      • Max DEF: 165
      • Traits: 15% Vitality (Mythril); 15% Weapon Damage, -10% Health (Eye Ore); 30% Vitality (Obsidian)

      • Max DEF: 123
      • Traits: 15% Vitality (Mythril); 15% Weapon Damage, -10% Health (Eye Ore); 30% Vitality (Obsidian)
  3. If you prioritize a balanced combination of movement speed and strength, you’ll love this armor set. The Lightite will help you move faster, which is especially useful when combined with the Dodge chance from Darkryte. And Demonite’s Burn chance helps boost your damage, making this armor even more powerful.
    • Chestplate: 13 Lightite, 12 Darkryte, 12 Demonite
      • Multiplier: 5.44x
      • Max DEF: 272

      • Max DEF: 192
      • Traits: 15% Movement Speed (Lightite); 8.25% Dodge Chance (Darkryte); 13.75% Burn Chance (Demonite)
  4. This armor provides incredibly strong defense later on the second island. It’s a great investment if you’re preparing to head to Island 3—but the ores are pretty rare, so this one can take a long time to make.
    • Chestplate: 20 Darkryte, 8 Demonite, 6 Obsidian, 6 Mythril
      • Multiplier: 5.13x
      • Max DEF: 256

Island 1 Armor Recipes: Stonewake’s Cross

PDF download Download Article
  1. On Island 1, you won’t find many rare ores to help you craft powerful armor. There’s only one ore that has a trait at all (Poopite, which has a chance of dealing AoE poison damage), and most of the ores have a multiplier of less than 1x. These tips will help you make something strong enough for Island 1 enemies, but you’ll want to upgrade shortly after arriving on Island 2.[2]
    • Get the highest multiplier you can by combining ores like Poopite (1.2x), Aite (1.1x), Platinum (0.8x), and Mushroomite (0.8x).
    • Stay focused during the forging minigame to get the maximum stats for the armor you craft.

Armor Crafting Tips

PDF download Download Article
  1. Armor recipes can be really useful, but they’re not the whole story—you can forge an endless variety of equipment by experimenting with ores. Whether you’re using a recipe or branching out on your own, these tips might help you when you’re deciding what to craft:
    • Prioritize heavy armor. There are three levels of armor in The Forge—light, medium, and heavy—but we recommend sticking to heavy. It takes more ores, but the multiplier and defense boosts are worth it in the long run.
    • Consider re-forging until you get Dark Knight, Wolf, or Raven. On Island 2, you have a chance of forging Dark Knight armor, which has increased stats over the base Knight variety. Island 3 adds Wolf and Raven varieties with even better stats. If you have enough ores, it may be worth forging again to get one of these rarer options.
    • The minigame is easier on mobile. If you’re struggling to click the circles at just the right time in the forging minigame, try forging from your mobile device instead of a PC. It’s a little easier to tap with your fingers instead of clicking with a mouse.
    • Enhance your equipment and add runes. Any gear you forge will become stronger if you enhance it. And runes can be a great way to add an extra stat boost to armor, like increased defense (Ward Patch) or Berserk mode (Rage Mark).[3]
