The Forge is still a relatively popular game on Roblox, but it’s quickly building up a huge fan base, thanks in large part to its old-school dungeon-crawler feel. There’s a lot to focus on in the game—mining ores, forging weapons and armor, fighting enemies… so how do you know what to focus on? Not to worry. We’ve put together this useful progression guide to help you level up fast in The Forge, with tips for early, mid, and late game.
The Forge: Progression Tips
- Complete Sensei Moro’s tutorial quests.
- Pick up as many NPC quests as possible to passively earn XP and gold.
- Mine ores so you can forge them into weapons and armor to sell.
- Prioritize maxing out your pickaxe before working on weapons and armor.
Steps
The Forge: Early Game Progression
-
Complete Sensei Moro’s tutorial. When you first enter the game, you’ll be guided to talk to Sensei Moro. His questline functions as a tutorial. He’ll give you your first pickaxe and show you how to use it to mine in the caves. You’ll also learn how to forge, equip, and sell weapons and armor, fight enemies, and enhance items. When you finish Sensei Moro’s quests, you’ll get additional valuable XP and gold.[1]
- During the tutorial, Sensei Moro will direct you to upgrade from your original pickaxe to a bronze, then an iron pickaxe, so you can mine better rocks.
- Sensei Moro will give you 3 Rerolls that you’ll use to choose your race (or class). Pay attention to the stats on the left side of the screen to decide whether you want to keep the race you roll or try again.
- The best races in the game are Dwarf, Angel, and Demon.
- You can get more Rerolls for free by playing the game, participating in events, or entering codes the game developers post on Discord. You can also buy Rerolls using Robux.
-
Talk to NPCs to get side quests while you’re working on the tutorial. Once you start mining for Sensei Moro, you’ll see NPCs like Nord and Umut the Brave. Talk to them to start their quests—you’ll gain extra rewards for things you’re doing anyway, like mining rocks and fighting zombies.
- You can complete these quests over and over, so once you meet the objectives, talk to the NPCs again. That way, you’ll maximize your rewards so you can level up quickly.

Forge your ores into weapons and armor to earn money. Forging and selling equipment is a great way to earn gold and XP. Mine pebbles and rocks to collect ores, then visit the forge to turn them into valuable equipment. Then, go to Marbles and sell anything you’re not planning to keep.[2]
- Do your best on the minigame every time you forge—it can have a huge impact on the quality and value of the finished piece.
- Don’t sell your ores directly to Greedy Cey. You’ll get a lot more money by forging the ores first, then selling them to Marbles.
- Prioritize forging valuable equipment like the Great Axe, Colossal Sword, and Heavy Chestplate. These require a lot of ores, but it’s worth the money you’ll get in return.
- The exact value of the equipment depends on the materials you use, how well you do at the forging minigame, and a bit of luck.
-
Upgrade to Stonewake’s pickaxe once you have $3,333. Stonewake’s pickaxe is located inside the cave entrance to the right. It has a slower-than-average mining speed, but because it’s extremely powerful, it’s actually a lot faster than other early game pickaxes when you’re mining rocks on the first island.[3]
- Keep the iron pickaxe that you get through the tutorial until you can get Stonewake’s. Skip upgrading to the Gold or Platinum pickaxes.
- Upgrading your pickaxe should be your top priority until you get the Arcane pickaxe.
-
Keep grinding until you reach level 10 with $10,000. Once you finish the tutorial, keep mining rocks, forging equipment, and selling it at the shop. When you reach level 10, you’ll unlock a Portal that will take you to the second island. But it’s a good idea to keep mining on the first island until you get around $10,000, since that will allow you to purchase the Cobalt pickaxe as soon as you get there.
- Also, you’ll save yourself a trip if you mine 30 bananite now. When you get to the second island, you’ll be able to complete Monke’s quest without returning to the first island.
- Grab a Health Potion I from Maria before you leave the first island. You’ll need it for the Cure for Isaac quest.[4]
- Don’t worry too much about crafting weapons and armor for yourself yet. You’ll be able to make much better equipment once you reach the second island.
The Forge: Mid-Game Progression
-
Head to the second island and talk to Sensei Moro again. After you reach level 10 and wrap up anything else you want to finish on the first island, head up the hill between the Shop and the cave. Talk to the Wizard, who will unlock the portal that allows you to travel to Island II (Forgotten Kingdom).[5]
- Once you’re at the second island, talk to Sensei Moro. He’ll give you another set of tutorial quests.
- Use the money you saved from the first island to buy the Cobalt pickaxe. It’s a big upgrade, as it gives you the ability to mine more valuable ores. (Be sure to sell your old pickaxe.)
-
Visit Monke and other NPCs to complete their quests. After you talk to Sensei Moro, head to a smaller island just off the coast of the main island. Talk to the monkey NPC named Monke. You’ll have the choice to offer him 1, 5, or 30 Bananite. Give him 30—you’ll get around $20,000 and a ton of XP, which is a huge boost at this point in the game.[6]
- Also, talk to Captain Rowan, the Masked Stranger, Barakkulfe, and Amber to activate their quests. Many of them can be completed in the background while you mine and fight enemies.
- Don’t do Tomo’s Lost Cat yet. To complete this quest, you have to spend a lot of gold to unlock the Goblin Cave. It’s better to save your gold until you have the Arcane pickaxe. After that, you can work on the Cat quest.
-
Craft mid-game weapons and armor. As you’re working your way through the quests, gather enough ores to get yourself a decent weapon and armor. Use mid-game ores like eye ore, magmaite, fireite, and rivalite, which will often add effects like Burn to your equipment. Experiment with different ore recipes to see which ones give you the stats that suit your gameplay best—and remember to stay focused during the minigame. Keep the equipment you like and sell the rest.[7]
- At this point, your weapon doesn’t have to be the most powerful in the game—a decent katana, gauntlet, light sword, or rapier are good weapon options all the way up through around level 30.
- Similarly, as long as you have a pretty solid chestplate, helmet, and leggings, it doesn’t really matter exactly which ones they are. You won’t spend much time fighting tough enemies until the late game.
- Visit the Enhance shop to upgrade your weapons and armor, improving the base stats and unlocking rune slots. Equip the runes you get from killing enemies to give yourself a stat boost. (For instance, you might add burn to a weapon or a movement speed boost to armor.)
- You can remove a rune if you want to switch it to another piece of equipment later.
-
Upgrade to the Mythril, then Lightite pickaxes. As you complete quests and forge and sell equipment, save up the money you get until you can afford the Mythril pickaxe, which costs $57,500. This will give you the ability to mine basalt, so you’ll get rarer ores that you can use to craft more valuable equipment.[8]
- The Lightite pickaxe will unlock the ability to mine Volcano rocks, which give you the rarest ores in the game.
- Try mining in the area with basalt veins for an easy way to farm XP and ores—there aren’t many enemies here, so it’s a good place to level up before you’ve built up your weapon and armor.
-
Check the Index and Achievements tabs in your main menu. In the Index tab, you’ll unlock rewards for mining, crafting, and fighting. Be sure to visit the tab frequently to claim those rewards.
- Under the Achievements tab, you’ll unlock skills. Equip a skill to give your character a stat boost. Keep in mind that you can only equip one skill at a time, but you can change it whenever you want.
The Forge: Late Game Progression
-
Talk to the Bard to unlock the Arcane pickaxe. The Bard will ask you to locate his lost guitar—to find it, head into the left side of the cave, pass through a secret entrance hidden in the grass, and talk to the skeleton. Take the guitar back to the Bard, and he’ll give you a key. Take the key back into the cave, this time staying to the right. Use the key to unlock the gate, and you’ll find the Arcane pickaxe.[9]
- The Arcane pickaxe is widely considered to be the best pickaxe in the game. But it costs $125,000, so you’ll need to grind for a while to get it.
- The Demonic pickaxe is slightly more powerful than the Arcane pickaxe, but it costs $500,000. Most players agree that the Arcane pickaxe is a better value, and plenty strong enough to last through the endgame.
- If you do want the Demonic pickaxe, you’ll find it by completing the Goblin King quest.
-
Craft the most powerful weapons and armor. Once you’ve gotten your late-game pickaxe, it’s time to suit up for the real battles. Gather rare ores like darkryte, magamite, eye ore, demonite, fireite, and rivalite, then take them to the forge. This is where the real grind comes in—it can take a long time to get these ores, and you might have to forge several times to get equipment with the exact stats you want.[10]
- Spend most of your time mining in the Volcanic depths to get these rare ores. Just be aware that this area contains more powerful enemies than the other caves, like Reapers, Skeletons, and Slimes.
- The Forge players Nipozy and Trhees put together this helpful spreadsheet showing what combinations of ores are most likely to yield powerful weapons and armor.
- Remember to visit the Enhancer’s shop to upgrade your equipment and the Runemaker’s shop to add runes.
-
Get as much money and XP as you can. Right now, The Forge is still in Beta, and there are only two islands. Once you’ve completed the quests and maxed out your weapons and armor, try to keep stacking as much cash as possible. That way, when new areas are eventually introduced, you’ll be ready to compete.
