Hide from the Absolute's watchful eyes with these easy tactics
PDF download Download Article

Scrying Eyes are an odd passive enemy that can be found in various Absolute outposts, such as Grymforge and Moonrise Towers. They won't attack unless you attack them first, but they will follow you around—and they're watching your every move. However, if you've ever tried to kill one, you probably know they're not as easy to kill as they look. In this article, we go over how to kill a Scrying Eye, what the pros and cons of killing them are, and all of the Scrying Eye's stats. Keep reading to learn more.

Ways to Kill Scrying Eyes in BG3

There are two ways to kill a Scrying Eye: attack it with Thunder damage or push/throw it into a chasm. If you opt to use Thunder damage, the best spells to use are Shatter or Booming Blade, since they can kill the Eyes in one hit. Otherwise, throwing them into a chasm is an effective way to get rid of them too.

  1. Scrying eyes are resistant or immune to all types of damage except for Thunder damage. Therefore, the only way you can kill one is with spells or attacks that inflict Thunder damage.[1] Shatter and Booming Blade are two highly effective options for killing a Scrying Eye, but any of the following spells, attacks, actions, or items will work:[2]
    • Spells:
      • Booming Blade
      • Chromatic Orb: Thunder
      • Destructive Wave
      • Destructive Wave: Necrotic
      • Destructive Wave: Radiant
      • Glyph of Warding: Thunder
      • Shatter
      • Thunderous Smite
      • Thunderwave
    • Class actions:
      • Fist of Four Thunders
      • Gong of the Summit
      • Heart of the Storm: Thunder
      • Sphere of Elemental Balance: Thunder
    • Special Actions:
      • Grand Slam
      • Grounded Thunder Strike
      • Gushing Air
      • Phalar Aluve: Shriek
      • Zephyr Break
      • Zephyr Flash
    • Weapons:
      • Cacophony (quarterstaff)
      • Corpsegrinder (maul)
      • Nyrulna (trident)
    • Equipment:
      • Thunderpalm Strikers (gloves)
      • Ring of Absolute Force (ring)
    • Consumables:
      • Concussion Grenade
  2. If you don't have any way to inflict Thunder damage or you don't want to use up a spell slot, you can also kill Scrying Eyes by pushing or throwing them into chasms.
    • You can use an improvised melee weapon to push a Scrying Eye closer to a chasm, then finish it off with a push or a throw.
    • There are a number of low walls in Moonrise Towers that make it impossible to push Scrying Eyes into chasms. One way to get around this is to stack boxes next to the short wall, then climb on top of the boxes before throwing the Scrying Eye.

Pros and Cons of Killing Scrying Eyes

PDF download Download Article
    • Killing Scrying Eyes is a good idea if you're not following the path of the Absolute in your playthrough. If you don't kill the Scrying Eyes, they will report your crimes against the Absolute to their allies, and you'll be stopped by the Steel Watch when you try to enter Wyrm's Crossing.[3]
      • If you've been caught committing crimes against the Absolute, you'll either need to agree to be imprisoned, or fight the Steel Watch when trying to go into Wyrm's Crossing.
      • Alternatively, you can skip this choice by walking through the gate while invisible and avoiding detection, using jumps or movement spells to bypass the checkpoint, or by having Karlach in your party (as she will trigger unique dialogue with the Steel Watcher).
    • Scrying Eyes drop an ingredient needed to make the Elixir of Darkvision. This elixir might be useful if you're playing a character that doesn't have darkvision already. While you can get the ingredient (the Crystalline Lens) a few other places, it's most readily available from Scrying Eyes before you get to Act 3.[4]
    • Not killing a Scrying Eye fast enough can alert enemies. If you're not able to kill a Scrying Eye in one hit, attacking it will notify the Scrying Eye's nearby allies, and they will join combat in the next turn.
      • Shatter is the best option to kill a Scrying Eye in one hit, followed by Booming Blade.
    • It's easy to bypass the Steel Watch later in the game. The biggest reason players try to take out Scrying Eyes is to avoid the Steel Watcher confrontation later in the game. However, there are other ways to avoid this confrontation (or jail time) that don't involve using spell slots or trying to kill the Scrying Eyes quickly.
